From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

The announcement came a day after Celtic confirmed that the Wolves striker Kenny Miller will also move to Glasgow at the end of this season.
Mark Wilson, who signed from Dundee United this week, and Roy Keane, who joined earlier this month, are also among the 10 new faces Strachan has now hired since he succeeded Martin O'Neill last summer, while Chris Sutton and Du Wei have both left this month.
Of more pressing concern to Strachan will be the players he uses at Motherwell tomorrow as Celtic look to maintain their seven-point lead over second-placed Hearts. Motherwell's manager Terry Butcher said yesterday that he considered Shunsuke Nakamura - another Strachan signing - to be the biggest threat to his side.
"He is a wonderful player and he destroyed us in the 5-0 game there in October," the former England captain said. "His movement and touch is quite sensational. [Majiec] Zurawski is now back fit and I saw him for Poland against England at Old Trafford and we all know what he can do.
"But Nakamura looks as though he's been there for some time and keeping him quiet is impossible at times."
Celtic's defensive problems continue, with Stephen McManus suspended, Bobo Baldé away at the African Nations' Cup, and Du Wei now back in China after an unsuccessful trial loan. Celtic have not had a clean sheet for nine games. Roy Keane could again play in central defence.
Hearts, who have so far signed winger Neil McCann, right-back Nerijus Barasa and midfielder Lee Johnson in the transfer window, play at Kilmarnock today, while Rangers, in fourth, play bottom club Livingston.
