At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. Gervinho gave Roma hope by pulling one back with 24 minutes to go, then Vasilis Torosidis grabbed a second in the 82rd minute. Roma’s Alessandro Florenzi also hit the bar late on but Bate hung on for a famous victory.
In Chelsea’s group, Dynamo Kiev beat Maccabi Tel Aviv 2-0, the visitors easing to victory thanks to Andrei Yarmolenko’s fourth-minute strike and a Moraes goal just after the break.
