From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Brazilian midfielder Ze Roberto claims Manchester City are "top of the list" of possible destinations after he was offered only a one-year contract extension by Bayern Munich.

The 34-year-old's current deal in Bavaria expires at the end of the month and he had been hoping to receive a longer commitment from the Bundesliga club than the 12 months on the table.

He has, therefore, turned his attention to other options and appears keen on a move to Eastlands.

"(My future) will be decided in the next few days," he told German newspaper tz.

"Manchester City's interest is right at the top of the list. They want to get into Europe and I am wanted to help them (get there).

"There are also two Bundesliga sides interested in me. One of them is even offering me a three-year contract. There is also a club from Saudi Arabia and some US clubs interested."
