From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Leicester defied odds of 5,000/1 to clinch the Premier League title with two games to spare after seeing off a dogged challenge from Tottenham, with title favourites Manchester City, Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester United falling dramatically short of pre-season expectations.
As part of the success story, a full afternoon of celebrations have been put into place for fans at the King Power Stadium to enjoy every second of the triumph, with a party atmosphere guaranteed come the 17.30 kick-off in Leicester.
As a way of saying thank you to the fans, Leicester owner Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha has paid for every fan to enjoy a free bottle of Singha Beer at the turnstile, along with a free pizza courtesy of Pizza Hut that can be redeemed round the city at four specific restaurants and the possibility of celebratory champagne too.
At 15.45, former Leicester player Alan Birchenall will start his 90-minute charity run around the perimeter of the pitch for the 36th time, something that the ex-midfielder has done ahead of the final match every season even though he now completes it with a replacement hip. A number of celebrities and former players are expected to join him once again.
Before kick-off, opera star Andrea Bocelli will take to the field to perform an adapted version of his hit song Time To Say Goodbye which is expected to ring out as Time To Win Again. Bocelli, who has been in talks with the club for the past six weeks, went blind at the age of 12 after being hit in the head by a football.
The Leicester squad will then take to the field in their brand new 2016/17 kit to give fans a taste of what the Premier League champions will wear next season after unveiling it on Thursday night, with sales already suspended by 13.00 on Friday due to the unprecedented demand.
At half-time, Snooker World Championship winner and Leicester fan Mark Selby will appear on the pitch to present his trophy and revel in the dual celebrations, having been unable to enjoy Leicester City’s triumph last weekend as he was on his way to victory against Ding Junhui in the final.
Finally, from the final whistle at around 19.15, the trophy presentations is set to get underway – this could quite possibly be delayed due to a pitch invasion – with Leicester fan Steve Worthy set to present captain Wes Morgan with the Premier League trophy. Worthy was selected by Barclays, and will present the trophy in tribute to his 97-year-old grandmother Gladys, who up until last year was Leciester’s oldest season ticket holder until she had to stop attending matches due to ill health.
