Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.Last year Dimitri Payet and West Ham brought excitement and passion to the Premier League. Unfortunately for Slaven Bilic, the Hammers have only managed one win in three games this season.
Two hard fixtures against high-flyers Chelsea and Manchester City mean that the buzz around the club and its new stadium has been slightly dulled. However, Bilic will be confident his side can earn all three points as they welcome Watford to the London Stadium.
Walter Mazzarri's Watford are clinging on to a single point after the three opening games. Again, two tough matches against Arsenal and Chelsea mean that the Hornets have found it difficult to replicate their form of last season and seem to be suffering from a case of second season syndrome.
It’s a big game for…
Dimitri Payet, who has only played 24 minutes in the Premier League this season since returning from the European Championship in which his side, France, fell short on home turf, losing to Portugal in the final.
Payet managed to continue his Premier League form from last season throughout the summer competition in France and Bilic will be keen to get him back on the pitch and back to his goalscoring ways.
Best stat…
Watford have only won two games out of 17 played away at West Ham and, the Hornets have only won six out of a total of 34 games played between the two sides in the league.
Remember when…
Andy Carroll latched onto to a perfect curling cross from Dimitri Payet, disguising his shot by using his shin to fool Watford goalkeeper Heurelho Gomes.
West Ham went on to beat Watford 3-1, thanks to two penalties converted by Mark Noble.
Player to watch...
Michail Antonio. The former Tooting and Mitcham player was called up to the England squad by Sam Allardyce for the first time last weekend. Even though he did not make an appearance, the call up alone is a huge step for a player who was playing non-league football just four years ago.
Despite playing at full-back Antonio also possess the ability to score goals. Having netted 8 goals last season, the 26-year-old is already off the mark this campaign with his goal against Manchester City in West Ham's previous Premier League game.
Past three-meetings...
West Ham 3 (Carroll, Noble 2), Watford 1 (Amrabat), Premier League, April 2016.
Watford 2 (Ighalo 2), West Ham 0, Premier League, October 2015.
West Ham 1 (Vaz Tê), Watford (Murray) 0, Championship, 2012.
