From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

It’s a big game for…

Andy Carroll. Having recovered from a long-term knee injury, the former Liverpool striker is in contention to feature against Arsenal as West Ham look for their first win in five. Carroll’s presence has been missed lately with the Hammers struggling to haul themselves out of the lower end of the league. If Slaven Bilic’s side are to stand any chance of taking something from their game against Arsenal, they’ll need the No 9 to recreate the heroics which saw him score a hat-trick in this fixture last season.

Remember when…

The Gunners ran five past West Ham in 2013? Arsenal had initially fallen behind but goals from the likes of Olivier Giroud and Theo Walcott helped Arsene Wenger’s men fight back to secure a convincing victory.

Player to watch…

Alexis Sanchez. The Chilean was in emphatic form for his side’s 3-1 win over AFC Bournemouth last Sunday and should his good form continue, he will inevitably pose Arsenal’s greatest threat. Wenger himself has admitted that the player’s tactical game has significantly improved, arguing that Sanchez has become more intelligent both on and off the ball. In total, the player has scored eight goals this season and has provided three assists.
