Arsenal squeezed out a very tight 1-0 win over West Brom thanks to a header from Danny Welbeck.

The England striker rose to score his first goal in six matches for the Gunners, who ended a run of two defeats on the bounce.

With the win, Arsenal are up to fourth in the Premier League, for the time being at least, while West Brom remain firmly stuck in the bottom half.

In a game of few chances, Welbeck should have opened the scoring but was smartly denied by the onrushing Ben Foster.

The Baggies goalkeeper almost gifted a goal to Olivier Giroud, who was starting a game for the first time since August, when he tried to take it round him but got his feet caught; Giroud couldn't find the net from a tight angle.

After going behind West Brom pushed for an equaliser and were unlucky not to get one when Saido Berahino hit the bar with a header of his own.

But a goal didn't come and Alan Irvine's team fell to a third defeat in a row.
