When he was a youngster, Everton fan Wayne Rooney would have said he bled blue. But evidence during the Manchester derby confirms he bleeds the colour of United.

A day after his 30th birthday, the Manchester United captain picked up a nasty gash on his head following a clash with Manchester City captain Vincent Kompany.

A stream of blood could be seen on the back of his head during the game at Old Trafford before he sought attention.

Manchester United medics used a staple gun to stem the flow of blood before Rooney continued.

The incident didn't go unnoticed by concerned Manchester United fans.

The match was level 0-0 at the time. Follow live coverage here.
