From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Edwin Van Der Sar has warned his Fulham team-mates against complacency after the team's qualification for the Uefa Cup.

The Dutch goalkeeper helped his team win the Intertoto Cup on Tuesday night to secure a place in today's Uefa Cup first-round draw, then urged them not to think that the hard work had been done.

"Yes, we are in the Uefa Cup but you can still go out in the first round and then you're still left with nothing," said Van der Sar. "You have to keep it in proportion.

"It means a lot to me to be back in Europe because these are the games you want to play in and I love to travel to play against teams that you never normally face, so I hope we get a nice draw now.

"We have played eight games in the Intertoto Cup and two in the league and we haven't lost yet so things are going well.

"This year we have already scored three or four goals in the last few minutes of games and that is important. It's a good quality and we are getting more luck than last year. I hope it stays with us but you mustn't get too excited about it."

The assistant manager, Christian Damiano, also believes Fulham will enjoy huge benefits from European football. He said: "Being in the Uefa Cup will help us grow to another level. It means playing at a higher standard and helps build confidence and self-belief. It will be a fantastic challenge for all the players."

The architect of the 3-1 victory over Bologna was Junichi Inamoto, whose hat-trick secured a 5-3 aggregate win over the Italians.

The Japanese international, who is on a year's from Arsenal, said: "I want to establish myself at Fulham. I want to do something over here and I would love to stay here for more than a year."
