Your support makes all the difference.Bayern Munich president Uli Hoeness has once again singled out Mesut Ozil for criticism, this time claiming that the player’s “image is a lot better than he is” at football.
The Bayern chief went further, expressing his surprise that Arsenal manager Unai Emery had selected Ozil as one of his five captains at the Emirates.
Only last month Hoeness criticised Ozil after the midfielder announced his retirement from international football.
When asked about the controversy surrounding Ozil’s claims he had been mistreated by the German Football Federation, Hoeness said the 29-year-old would not be missed by the national side and questioned his commitment and professionalism.
"I am glad that this scare is now over. He had been playing s--- for years," Hoeness told Sport Bild. "He last won a tackle before the 2014 World Cup. And now he and his s----- performance hide beyond this picture.”
And now, in yet another verbal attack, Hoeness has argued that Ozil is nothing more than a “well-marketed product.
“We would have been spared the whole theatre,” Hoeness told Sky Sport Germany, in reference to the controversial reasons behind Ozil’s retirement.
“Ozil should have been forced to make a statement. But leaving that without explanation was probably the biggest mistake ever.
“I've been watching the player for a long time and he's a well-marketed product whose image is a lot better than he is, which is the only big blame for me.
“Had [Germany coach Joachim] Low gone to Arsenal more often in London and looked at him properly, he probably would not have taken him for sporting reasons.
“It is a miracle that he is now captain at Arsenal.”
