Tottenham midfielder Moussa Sissoko could miss the north London derby against Arsenal after being charged with violent conduct, the Football Association has announced.

Sissoko was caught on television cameras elbowing Bournemouth’s Harry Arter while wrestling the ball away from the midfielder for a throw in on the touchline.

Sissoko was seen apologising to Arter afterwards but the incident was missed by the match officials during the 0-0 draw at the Vitality Stadium and will now be reviewed by a three-man disciplinary panel.

Sissoko had until 18:00 BST on Tuesday to respond to the charges but Tottenham have accepted them, meaning the player could be handed a three-game suspension.

Manchester City striker Sergio Aguero was banned for three games for a similar offence earlier in the season after catching West Ham defender Winston Reid with his elbow.

Speaking after the game, Arter insisted he was happy to accept Sissoko’s claim that it was an accidental elbow.

He said: "I never want to see a player get into trouble if they didn't mean to. Sissoko apologised. I'm happy to move on from it."

Should Sissoko be found guilty, as well as the north London derby at the Emirates, he will miss home games against Leicester City and West Ham United.
