Aaron Lennon might have been loaned out to Everton, but that didn't stop Tottenham wanting to wish him well on his birthday. Only they somehow managed to get their dates mixed up.
The rapid winger arrived at White Hart Lane almost a decade ago - but Spurs' media team managed to wish him well a full 24-hours prior to his 28th birthday celebrations, which will be happening tomorrow.
Lennon moved to White Hart Lane in 2005 and has scored 26 goals in all competitions for Spurs. The England international is Tottenham's longest-serving player which is why Spurs wanted to wish him 'a great day'.
Realising their error, the tweet was removed.
It's becoming increasingly common for clubs to wish their players 'happy birthday' via their verified social media accounts, while getting it wrong can lead to a whole heap of problems. Just ask Manchester City.
Last season's Premier League champions made the headlines last year after apparently forgetting to send their regards to star man Yaya Toure.
Toure's agent blasted City's inability to send their midfielder a birthday cake as 'really sick', fuelling talk of a summer departure from the club.
“Yaya is so upset, he is thinking of leaving City,” Seluk said in May. “There are a number of things that have happened that have left Yaya feeling bitterly upset. City have treated him with disrespect and have really hurt him.
“What happened at his birthday meant the club don’t care about him. It was proof. They can say whatever they want, ‘Oh we like him, but we forgot.’ None of them shook his hand on his birthday. It’s really sick."
Lennon, nor his agent, have responded to the premature greeting, but some Spurs fans have hit back, using the oversight as an opportunity to question the club's decision to allow the winger to move to Goodison Park.
One supporter Tweeted: 'Haha, it's tomorrow... So Spursy'.
