Harry Kane says his Tottenham Hotspur team-mates have set a “standard” for themselves to attain every game after the weekend’s 3-0 win over Leicester City.

In a big game for both sides’ aspirations of European football next season, Kane played an influential role to score twice and be involved in the other goal, increasing Spurs’ hopes of securing Europa League action for 2020/21.

Aside from the scoreline, Kane was pleased with his team’s resolve in keeping Leicester out and boosting the squad’s morale.

“It was a really good first half. We caught them on the counter-attack and were clinical with our chances, soaked up the pressure,” he said to the club website.

“Look, maybe we dropped a little too deep in the second half but we won the game 3-0, another clean sheet and we’ll take that momentum going forward.

“We knew there would be spaces when we won the ball back, and our goals were counter-attacks, so we exploited that well.

“Once you get the chances, you have to take them. We had three shots on target, three goals and that’s the standard we have to set.”

Kane is eager to ensure his team-mates now do not fall at the final hurdle.

Spurs are away to Crystal Palace on the final day, who have been in woeful form themselves since the restart. But between Spurs, Wolves and Sheffield United there are only two places definitely up for grabs, with an extra spot coming if Chelsea beat Arsenal in the FA Cup final.

“One more to go, so we’re not done yet,” Kane continued. “We’ve won the last three, which is great, but it would be a shame to miss out on a [Europa League] spot if we lose next week. We’ll have a nice week’s rest now and try to finish the season with a win.”
