Ex-Tottenham Hotspur manager Glenn Hoddle has backed his former employers for the Premier League title, saying they have the advantage over rivals Arsenal.

Spurs are locked in a four-horse race at present, with Manchester City and Leicester occupying the other two spots in the top four, but Hoddle believes the North London outfit have plenty to be positive about.

Writing in his Daily Mail column, the former England manager and current television pundit said: “In this extraordinary season, with Chelsea falling by the wayside, Manchester United weaker than ever, Manchester City inconsistent and even Arsenal prone to some awful performances, they [Spurs] have an opportunity which may not present itself again.

“In fact, I would go as far to say that other than Leicester City, Tottenham have been the most consistent side in the Premier League this season. Unlike Arsenal, their defeats haven’t been meltdowns.

“There have only been two, and one of those came from a last-minute Newcastle goal. The other was on the first day of the season at Manchester United. Their back four looks to be the best, having conceded the fewest goals this season — just 15.”

Tottenham are preparing for a League and FA Cup double at home against Leicester this month before clashes with Sunderland and Crystal Palace.
