Depay is likely to leave Old Trafford in January having failed to make an impression under United manager Jose Mourinho.
Louis van Gaal signed Depay for United for £31m from PSV Eindhoven in June 2015, the 21-year-old describing the move at the time as ‘a dream come true’.
But after making 45 appearances in all competitions last season, scoring seven goals, the Dutchman has fallen out of favour under Mourinho, starting only one match, against Northampton in the EFL Cup in September.
Ronald Koeman, the Everton manager, revealed his interest in Depay last month, with an injury to Yannick Bolasie adding to his need for a winger.
“He’s a young player with individual qualities, like aggression and efficiency,” Koeman said in November. “I would like him in January. He is a good and interesting player. He has shown that in his early days at Manchester United.
“But more recently it’s been less. He needs to play more games.”
The Liverpool Echo reports on Friday that Koeman now faces serious competition for Depay’s signature from Tottenham Hotspur.
The paper reports Mauricio Pochettino is a big admirer of the youngster and wants to bring him to White Hart Lane.
