Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.Chelsea were absolutely brilliant in their 5-0 demolition of Swansea, putting in one of their best performances of the season to extend their lead at the top of the Premier League table to five points.
It started badly for the Swans who were a goal down inside of a minute when a poor Gylfi Sigurdsson back-pass gave Oscar room to find the bottom corner. The Iceland international almost equalised immediately, but that was as good as it got for the home side all afternoon.
Garry Monk made an error in selection, starting Sigurdsson deeper to allow new signing Nelson Oliveira a role behind Bafetimbi Gomis, and Chelsea exploited the weak centre, Nemanja Matic and Cesc Fabregas dominating.
With only 36 minutes played Chelsea were 4-0 up, Oscar scoring two and Diego Costa adding two of his own in the process and the game was all but over.
Chelsea allowed Swansea possession in the middle of the park after that, allowing the clock to run down. Andre Schurrle had time to come off the bench to score one more before Swansea recorded their first and only shot on target in the 83rd minute.
But who was the star man at the Liberty? It certainly wasn't any player from the home side - scroll through the gallery to see our ratings.
