Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.A supporter has been arrested after running to the dugout at St Mary's to berate Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger during the Gunners 2-0 defeat by Southampton today.
With the score 2-0 to the Saints with five minutes to play, the fan ran over and angrily confronted Wenger, who was sitting down, before the manager and his assistant, Steve Bould gestured at him to move away. The fan was soon escorted out by stewards and detained by Hampshire Police.
Southampton say the man is an Arsenal fan who was sat with home supporters.
The incident comes just over three weeks after Wenger was abused by Arsenal fans while boarding a train following defeat at Stoke City.
At St Mary's, Sadio Mane's third goal in as many games from the narrowest of angles gave Southampton the lead in the 34th minute against one of their rivals for a top-four finish at St Mary's.
Mane brushed past Laurent Koscielny and beat Wojciech Szczesny to a throughball after the Arsenal goalkeeper inexplicably rushed far out of his goal, and Mane curled the ball over him and into the net from a tight angle.
Dusan Tadic lashed in from close range after Mathieu Debuchy and Szczesny failed to clear a cross from Steven Davis in the 56th.
The result gave Southampton at three-point cushion in fourth place.
