From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Borussia Dortmund defender Neven Subotic has dismissed rumours linking him with a move to Manchester City this winter by affirming his desire to stay with the Bundesliga club.

Subotic is a reported target of the big-spending Premier League outfit but he insists he has a duty to Dortmund and their coach Jurgen Klopp to see out his contract, which he has only just extended.

"Of course it is flattering to have my name linked with a top club in England," he told the Bild newspaper.

"Manchester City are so rich that they can practically buy any player they want.

"I have only just extended my contract until 2014 and I am also very happy privately in Dortmund.

"I still want to achieve something with Dortmund and I owe this also to Jurgen Klopp, who brought me here from Mainz."

Subotic is currently in London with the Serbian national team preparing for tomorrow's international friendly against South Korea.

And he would rather not hear any more about a potential offer from any other club, saying that "dealing with a transfer when you are in the middle of a season always brings bad luck, in my eyes."
