Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.Chelsea midfielder Ruben Loftus-Cheek has signed a new long-term contract to keep him at the club for another five years.
The 20-year-old, who joined the club aged just seven, has been a regular in the first-team this season after making his debut in the Champions League in December 2014.
The tall and talented midfielder, who has played 13 games for the club, was out of contract at the end of the season but has signed a new deal untill 2021.
"I’m delighted to sign a new contract at Chelsea and my focus is on working hard in training every day in order to push on and establish myself in the team," he said.
"It really means a lot because this shows the club believe in me so I’m really happy. The club have done so much for me since I started here as an Under-8 and now I want to repay the faith they’ve shown in me with my performances on the pitch."
He is one of the most gifted players to come through the Chelsea academy in recent years, although former manager Jose Mourinho had publicly criticised his attitude.
Loftus-Cheek has had a lot of success with Chelsea's youth teams, winning the FA Youth Cup twice, the Under-21 Premier League and the Uefa Youth League.
He has been a regular on the Chelsea bench this season, although he hasn't featured in any of the last three matches, and has eight England U21 caps.
