The former midfielder, who spent six years at the club, made 284 appearances, scored 84 goals, won three FA Cups and lifted two Premier League titles, instead thinks Alexis Sanchez is more deserving of a place.
But the Frenchman did find a place for himself on the bench.
In his selection, he picked five of his fellow 'Invincibles' - those part of the squad that went the entire 2003/04 campaign unbeaten - in the starting line-up.
They were defenders Ashley Cole and Lauren, who took the left and right-back positions respectively, Patrick Vieira in midfield and Thierry Henry and Dennis Bergkamp in attack.
Pires found space for four current Arsenal players, with Sanchez and Santi Cazorla in midfield and Laurent Koscielny in defence. Perhaps the most surprising selection of all was Francis Coquelin, who whilst impressing this season and last, has played just 88 games for the Gunners. It meant there was no place for alternate defensive midfield options Mathieu Flamini, Emmanuel Petit or Gilberto, although the latter made it on to Pires' imaginary bench.
