Raheem Sterling is in a battle to be ready for Euro 2016 after it emerged he will be out of action for six-to-eight weeks.

The 21-year-old Manchester City player, signed from Liverpool for a British record £49m last summer, was hurt during the Manchester derby defeat to United on Sunday.

It's now emerged that he could be out for as long as two months - a prognosis that will see him miss Manchester City's Champions League quarter-final against PSG and probably all of his club's remaining league fixtures. A return in eight weeks would be after the final round of Premier League games, which take place on May 15.

With a lack of opportunity to prove his fitness, Sterling will have to hope England manager Roy Hodgson shows faith in him when selecting his squad for Euro 2016, which takes place in France this summer.

Ahead of England's first group game of the tournament against Russia on June 11, the Three Lions will play Turkey, Australia and Portugal. A return in eight weeks from today would mean Sterling is available for the latter of those two fixtures.
