Brendan Rodgers came under criticism for resting some players - Steven Gerrard, Raheem Sterling, Mario Balotelli - against Real Madrid on Tuesday, with the BBC's Gary Lineker tweeting that the under-strength side was "unbefitting of a club of Liverpool’s stature". Still Rodgers' would have been pleased with a spirited 1-0 defeat against Real - but the real test of his tactics will come against Chelsea.
Will his rested star players outperform their tired Chelsea counterparts, who witnessed an unimpressive draw at Maribor on Wednesday evening? The Blues still remain unbeaten in the league this season.
The player to watch this weekend is Alexis Sanchez, who will travel with Arsenal to Swansea on Sunday. The Chilean is virtually carrying Arsene Wenger's men at the moment, with 11 goals in 16 games since joining this summer. Arsenal will be hoping to improve from their Champions League game against Anderlecht, where they gave away a 3-0 lead to draw 3-3.
A possible upset this weekend could occur at Loftus Road, as QPR take on Manchester City.
City boss Manuel Pellegrini said his side had a "a crisis of confidence" after their midweek loss to CSKA Moscow. Despite their recent victory over Manchester United, City have only won one of their last five games. While QPR are still struggling at the bottom of the table, their performances against Chelsea, Aston Villa and Liverpool have shown they are steadily improving.
