Premier League players set for extra £480m in wages due to new TV deal
The Deloitte Annual Review claims most of the new revenue in football will go straight to players
Premier League players could be set for a £480 million wage bonanza as a result of the new television deal that will be implemented this summer.
The Deloitte Annual Review 2013 says previous trends suggest that up to 80 per cent of the additional £600m clubs will receive will go to the pockets of players.
Wage bills for all employees at Premier League clubs reached £1.658bn for the season 2011/12, which the report focuses on. Manchester City were top payers at £202m. Swansea were bottom at £35m. The new television deal will land clubs an additional annual figure of between £25m and £35m.
The report states: "If historic trends are repeated, increasing wages will absorb about 80 per cent [£480m] of the extra revenue."
