Premier League football will return this weekend after its hiatus for international fixtures.

Plenty of stars were in action across the globe, with most nations playing two matches across the international break.

Whilst it is rewarding to see players featuring for their country, especially for a first call up, there is always some trepidation from fans about the risk of injuries and impact of travelling fatigue.

We have put together a summary of every club’s international players, with an insight into how they got on and what injuries were suffered.

Arsenal

Dani Ceballos starred for Spain in their first Euro 2020 qualifier against Romania, looking dangerous in his 77 minutes on the pitch. He was then an unused substitute against the Faroe Islands. Sead Kolsanic played every minute of Bosnia and Herzegovina’s two matches. Lucas Torreira only played 45 minutes in Uruguay’s friendly against Costa Rica on Saturday and did not feature in their draw against the USA. Nicholas Pepe remained at Arsenal to work with the Arsenal coaches.

Aston Villa

There was a goal for John McGinn in Scotland’s 2-1 defeat to Russia, with the Scot also featuring late off the bench in their 4-0 loss to Belgium. Tyrone Mings was not used by England in either of their qualifiers, whilst Neil Taylor only featured in the first of Wales’ two wins. Conor Hourihane started and was subbed off in both of Irealnd’s matches.

Bournemouth

Chris Mepham started in both of Wales’ wins but was withdrawn in against Belarus with an injury concern. Ireland’s Mark Travers played 76 minutes in their friendly win over Bulgaria on Tuesday.

Brighton

Matt Ryan kept a clean sheet in Australia’s 3-0 win over Kuwait in their first qualifier for the 2022 World Cup.

Burnley

Jeff Hendrick played all of Ireland’s draw with Switzerland in Group D, and was subbed on in their friendly win against Bulgaria. Backup goalkeeper Bailey Peacock-Farrell was unable to prevent Northern Ireland’s 2-0 defeat to Germany.

Chelsea

England’s Ross Barkley and Mason Mount featured in both of England’s wins, with the former starting both games and the latter impressing from the bench to win his first caps. Emerson was injured on duty with Italy against Finland and returned to Chelsea for treatment, but confirmed on Twitter this was nothing serious. In the same game, Jorginho scored the winning penalty after also playing against Armenia. Another injury worry for the Blues is Mateo Kovacic, who withdrew from the Croatia squad with an inflamed Achilles tendon. Kepa Arrizabalaga made some fantastic stops in their 2-1 win over Spain and was rested against the Faroe Islands. Andreas Christensen impressed for Denmark in their 6-0 demolition of Gibraltar and their 0-0 draw with Georgia. Olivier Giroud started in both of France’s wins, scoring in their first against Albania. Christian Pulisic withdrew from the USA squad to work on his fitness in England.

Crystal Palace

Captain Luka Milivojevic played the full 90 minutes as Serbia beat Luxembourg. Wayne Hennessey made an error leading to a goal in Wales’ win over Azerbaijan, and did not play in their friendly against Belarus.

Everton

England’s no.1 Jordan Pickford played in both of England’s wins, keeping one clean sheet. Michael Keane also played both games and was responsible for England conceding in the first minute against Kosovo. Iceland captain Gylfi Sigurdsson and Turkey’s Cenk Tosun both netted their first goal of the season against Armenia and Moldova respectively. Richarlison started and was subbed off in both of Brazil’s friendlies, facing Colombia’s Yerry Mina in the first. Luca Digne started the second of France’s wins on Tuesday against Andorra, whilst fellow full-back Seamus Coleman also only played one game for Ireland as he was rested in their friendly against Bulgaria. Alex Iwobi played 70 minutes as Nigeria drew 2-2 with Ukraine.

Leicester

Kasper Schmeichel played in both of Denmark’s qualifiers, and his deputy Danny Ward played the full 90 minutes in Wales’ match against Bulgaria. Ben Chilwell only played in England’s second match, and did fairly well whilst James Maddison failed to win his first cap in either of England’s two games. Belgium’s Youri Tielemans started both of Belgium’s 4-0 victories and was subbed off in their second match.

Liverpool

Gini Wijnaldum scored the final goal in The Netherlands 4-2 win over Germany and their 4-0 win against Estonia. Trent Alexander-Arnold only played in England’s second qualifier against Kosovo, but Jordan Henderson started both matches. Scotland captain Andy Robertson played 90 minutes in both of their defeats. Brazil’s Roberto Firmino and Fabinho both featured for Brazil as they lost against Peru.

Manchester City

Gabriel Jesus made himself unavailable from Brazil duty with a small injury, but Ederson played in their 2-2 draw with Colombia. Ukranian’s Oleksandr Zinchenko scored in both of their matches, as did Raheem Sterling for England, continuing his electrifying start to the season. After scoring against Serbia, Bernardo Silva twice assisted Cristiano Ronaldo in Portugal’s 5-1 win over Lithuania in which Joao Cancelo also played. Ilkay Gundogan withdrew from the Germany squad with illness after featuring as a substitute against The Netherlands. Rodri played for Spain in their second match against the Faroe Islands. Kevin De Bruyne scored against Scotland for Belgium and looked very threatening throughout.

Manchester United

Harry Maguire played 90 minutes in both of England’s games, but looked shaky and gave away a penalty against Kosovo. Marcus Rashford featured in both games but only started the first as Jesse Lingard withdrew from the squad due to illness. David de Gea only played in Spain’s win over the Faroe Islands. Victor Lindelof played in both of Sweden’s qualifiers, notching his first goal of the season in their first match. Forgotten man Macros Rojo played 90 minutes as Argentina beat Mexico 4-0. Scotland’s Scott McTominay started both of Scotland’s defeats, whilst Dan James did the same for Wales and scored in their friendly against Belarus. Nemanja Matic featured as a starter and a substitute for Serbia in their two games.

Newcastle United

Fabian Schar scored a lovely goal for Switzerland in their draw with Ireland. Miguel Almiron came on as a sub and got his first goal of the season as Paraguay beat Jordan, whilst Emil Kraft also made a substitute appearance for Sweden against the Faroe Islands. Martin Dubravka conceded five goals in two games with Slovakia against Croatia and Hungary.

Norwich

Teemu Pukki continued his good form as he scored two penalties for Finland against Greece and Italy. Kenny McLean only featured once off the bench for Scotland, playing 28 minutes against Russia.

Sheffield United

Callum Robinson, Enda Stevens and David McGoldrick all started in Ireland’s draw with Switzerland, with the latter scoring Ireland’s only goal. None of the trio started in the friendly against Bulgaria, but Stevens came off the bench late on. Ollie McBurnie played all of Scotland’s defeat to Russia and did not feature against Belgium.

Southampton

Captain Pierre-Emile Hojberg started both of Denmark’s qualifiers, and was subbed off in the draw with Georgia. Poland’s Jan Bednarek played every minute of their matches, keeping a clean sheet against Austria.

Spurs

Harry Kane scored 4 goals in 2 matches for England, whilst Danny Rose only played in their first win over Bulgaria. Christian Eriksen played both matches for Denmark, scoring two penalties against Gibraltar. After not featuring against Albania, Moussa Sissoko played 90 minutes in France’s win over Andorra with Hugo Lloris playing both games. Davinson Sanchez started both of Colombia’s friendlies and was subbed off in the second. Heung-Min Son featured in both of South Korea’s games. Belgium duo Jan Vertonghen and Toby Alderweireld played 180 minutes each, with the latter scoring against Scotland.

Watford

Roberto Pereya got 25 minutes as Argentina beat Mexico 4-0, and was unused in their draw with Chile. Defender Craig Cathcart was rested for Northern Ireland’s friendly win over Luxembourg but played 90 minutes as they lost to Germany.

West Ham

Manuel Lanzini was also unused for Argentina against Chile, and also came off the bench in the win over Mexico. Andriy Yarmolenko played 58 minutes in Ukraine’s friendly with Nigeria. Declan Rice started both games for England.

Wolves

Rui Patricio played 180 minutes for Portugal, with Ruben Neves only playing the second match and Diogo Jota unused in both. Raul Jimenez only featured for Mexico in their 4-0 defeat to Argentina, whilst Leander Dendoncker only played for Belgium in their win over Scotland.
