From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. Your support makes all the difference.Petr Cech has been named in Chelsea’s squad for the current Premier League season despite retiring from football in 2019.
The 38-year-old Cech, who is now a technical advisor at Stamford Bridge where he spent 11 years and won four Premier League titles, retired at the end of a four-year stint with Arsenal.
He has since worked closely with Chelsea director Marina Granovskaia and played a key role in bringing new goalkeeper Edouard Mendy to the club.
However it seems unlikely we will get the chance to see him don the gloves this season. Frank Lampard named Cech as his emergency fourth goalkeeper in a 21-man registration list, behind Mendy, Kepa Arrizabalaga and Willy Caballero.
Youngsters like Mason Mount and Reece James were automatically included in the squad as U21 registered players, meaning Lampard had spare room in his selection of up to 25 senior players.
In other news, Kurt Zouma’s middle name is Happy.
