With the England squad for next week’s friendly against Denmark being announced last Thursday, fans the country over have been discussing who they think should be in and out of the national side.
All fans have a opinion or two about certain players but it seems that a lot of them have very negative views on one player especially, this being Tom Cleverley.
The views on the Manchester United midfielder are so bad that it has led to thousands of fans signing a petition to ban Cleverley from England’s World Cup squad for Brazil this summer.
In the first 24 hours alone, the petition already had over 4,000 signatures on it.
It reads: “Tom Cleverley, owner of 13 England caps, has been regularly selected by Roy Hodgson in his squads without possessing any genuine qualities whatsoever.
“We believe in the reputation of this proud footballing nation and that he should be prevented from attending this summer's international showcase.
“Whilst England are considered to disappoint at major tournaments, further embarrassment could be avoided by not having his inept performances undermine the rest team's efforts.”
Cleverley was selected by England manager Roy Hodgson for next week’s friendly despite only netting once in 32 games of United this season, whereas other in form players like Tom Huddlestone and Adam Johnson were left out.
Cleverley, who holds the record for the most touches in one game in an England international, has been much criticised this season and claimed that he was being made the ‘scapegoat’ admits Man United’s turbulent season.
