From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

Steve Bruce’s side are desperately trying to avoid relegation and, although the under-fire head coach is “quietly confident” the Magpies will survive the drop, their fate is far from certain. Newcastle have won just two of their last 14 top flight games, with that run of form leaving the club just three points clear of Fulham.
Their last two defeats have come against Manchester United and Chelsea, though, and Bruce is adamant that the form his side showed in those losses will be enough to avoid slipping into the Championship, even without star striker Callum Wilson, who is recovering from a hamstring injury.
Meanwhile, Nuno Espirito Santo’s side have well recovered from what was becoming a disastrous slump of their own, sparked by the injury of striker Raul Jimenez. The arrival of Willian Jose on loan from Real Sociedad has bolstered the club’s attack and the results have followed suit, with three wins in their last four games leaving Wolves closer to the top-six than the relegation zone heading into the weekend.
