Everton have “strongly expressed their disappointment” to forward Moise Kean after the 20-year-old broke lockdown restrictions by hosting a party.

The £24m summer signing filmed himself with guests at his home that was in clear breach of the government’s social distancing guidelines, resulting in the Merseyside club condemning his “unacceptable” actions and issuing a firm reprimand.

It has also been suggested that Kean will face further disciplinary action for his behaviour.

A club statement read: “Everton Football Club was appalled to learn of an incident in which a first team player ignored government guidance and club policy in relation to the coronavirus crisis.

“The club has strongly expressed its disappointment to the player and made it clear that such actions are completely unacceptable.

“Everton has regularly stressed the importance of following all the government guidelines – including rules and advice for inside and outside of the home – through a series of official communications to all staff members, including players.

“The amazing people in the NHS deserve the utmost respect for their hard work and sacrifice. The best way to show them respect is by doing everything we can to protect them.”

Kean has failed to impress in his debut season in England, scoring just once in 26 games for the Toffees since arriving from Juventus last summer.

Premier League players have been involved in repeated lockdown infringements that has highlighted an alarming defiance by those considered widely as role models.

Tottenham players and staff have been involved in three separate incidents, with manager Jose Mourinho admitting he was wrong to hold a one-on-one training session with midfielder Tanguy Ndombele, while Serge Aurier and Moussa Sissoko, and Ryan Sessegnon and Davinson Sanchez, were all forced to apologise for training together.

Arsenal’s Davis Luiz, Alexandre Lacazette, Granit Xhaka and Nicholas Pepe were also spotted training together in breach of lockdown restrictions.

More serious breaches saw Jack Grealish reprimanded by Aston Villa after visiting friend and former teammate Ross McCormack overnight and being involved in a car accident the following morning, for which he issued a video apology, while Manchester City’s Kyle Walker also apologised after hosting a ‘sex party’ at his home with a friend and two escorts.
