McCarthy draws strength from owner's support
Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference. The Wolves manager, Mick McCarthy, insists he retains the support of the club's hierarchy ahead of Sunday's bottom-four game against Wigan at Molineux.
McCarthy came under fire from some fans after the recent home draw with Swansea, to which the Wolves boss responded by labelling critics "mindless idiots".
Wolves have taken only one point from the last seven games, but McCarthy believes that owner Steve Morgan and chief executive Jez Moxey have faith in him.
"The support I have from Steve and Jez and everybody has always been at its strongest when it has been tough," said McCarthy. "That's really great to have."
But McCarthy accepts that Wolves have to regain the winning touch after their poor run, and soon. "We just need to win a game and Sunday is our next opportunity – we just need that feeling of winning games, because we haven't had it for a while," he said.
"The players are working their socks off and we try to keep the self-belief up and tell them it will turn around."
