Mauricio Pochettino believes any top 10 Premier League team can win the title

Watford, the division’s 10th-placed side, are currently 14 points off the top of the table

Mauricio Pochettino has suggested that any team inside the Premier League’s top 10 could become champions this season.

The Argentinian’s Tottenham Hotspur team went down to a 1-0 home defeat against Leicester City on Wednesday night, courtesy of Robert Huth’s late header, which left them seven points behind league leaders Arsenal.

Watford, the division’s 10^th-placed side, are 14 points off the top of the table and are unlikely to be considering a serious title tilt with 17 games remaining. Pochettino, however, believes that the unpredictability of this year's division means the championship race is still wide open.

"The Premier League is very tough. It is the hardest league in world and is very open today,” he said.

"Arsenal, Leicester, City, us, behind us Liverpool, Man Utd, West Ham. It’s very open league so far, all can happen.

"All (the teams) who are in the top 10 have the chance to win the league. It’s very open. You can’t guess. There are a lot of games ahead still to play. All can happen."

Following their win at White Hart Lane, Leicester went level on points with Arsenal at the top and only sit in second place by virtue of having a poorer goal difference than the Gunners.

Pochettino admitted he was disappointed to lose to a team who are also competing at the upper end of the league table but is confident that his side will rediscover their form.

“We're excited to compete but you need to accept sometimes the bad result like Leicester can happen,” he said.

"We missed a great opportunity to establish ourselves at the top of the table. You feel disappointed but you need to carry on and keep working hard because all is open.

"We have a game again quickly against Sunderland and we must react to play well and take three points because we need to keep our position in the table."
