From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. Mario Balotelli is the "perfect fit" for Liverpool, says Gianfranco Zola.

The former Italy and Chelsea striker has talked up the merits of the move for the controversial striker - as long as he manages to keep his focus.

"I hope Mario takes the chance very well and Liverpool can have a lot of benefit from it," Zola told the Soccerex Global Convention in Manchester. "I believe Mario technically and tactically is the perfect fit for Liverpool.

"I think it will depend a lot on Mario's attitude towards it.

"I think it is very important for him. I believe it is a massive opportunity for him to make a step forward in his career and his knowledge of football."

Balotelli arrived at Anfield in a £16m deal - and whilst there is little question about his ability, there remain concerns about his attitude.

Already there has been cause for concern around the player even Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers admitted was "trouble". Last week it emerged that the striker had been substituted early during a behind-closed-doors friendly after a rash challenge and subsequent altercation with referee Chris Foy.

Having made his debut in the recent 3-0 win over Tottenham, Balotelli is in line to make his first appearance at Anfield as a Liverpool player when the Reds play Aston Villa on Saturday.
