From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Manager Roberto Mancini said it would be "very difficult" for the 25-year-old, who has only just recovered from a groin tear and is clearly feeling the effects of City's huge dependence on him. "We will try for him but I don't think he will play. We should think about the other six games in the Premier League," Mancini said. The doubts about Tevez's fitness for the visit to Blackburn, a week on Monday, are grave for a side who have collected just two points from six away games.
In a bizarre post-match analysis, Mancini said he was "disappointed with myself because I made a mistake" and took entire responsibility for a game which reversed the scoreline from the Eastlands encounter between the sides. Mancini would not specify what his mistake was, though when pressed he appeared to suggest that he had underestimated Liverpool and told his players to keep Saturday's semi-final in mind. "Probably I thought that if we played this game not 100 per cent that we [could] do well but football is not like this," he said. "Probably our focus was not good. It is very important for me to understand this."
His players were to blame. Mario Balotelli, who replaced Tevez but was substituted, "didn't play very well" Mancini admitted. "But I am sure we will get to the Champions League and the FA Cup final," he concluded.
