From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.Bastian Schweinsteiger will make his first start for Manchester United since completing his summer move from Bayern Munich after being named in the side that will take on Newcastle at Old Trafford on Saturday.
The decision to play the World Cup-winning midfielder is the only change made by manager Louis van Gaal to the side that beat Club Brugge in the Champions League play-off on Tuesday as well as defeating Aston Villa last Friday.
Schweinsteiger comes in for Michael Carrick, who drops to the bench, while Marouane Fellaini serves the final match of his three-game suspension for being sent-off last season.
Newcastle meanwhile will hope to bounce back from the 2-0 defeat they suffered at Swansea last week, and head coach Steve McClaren has made three changes to his side after having to deal with injury and suspension.
Defender Daryl Janmaat is suspended after being sent-off inside 42 minutes against the Swans so Steven Taylor comes into central defence as Chancel Mbemba moves to right-back, while Moussa Sissoko misses out through injury with Ayoze Perez coming into midfield.
Hot-head Alexandar Mitrovic is handed his first start since joining the Magpies in the summer as he replaces Papiss Cisse in attack, while midweek signing Florian Thauvin has to make do with a place in the bench where he is joined by Siem de Jong and Cisse.
