Manchester United bounced back from an early setback to thrash Newcastle United 4-1 and move up into sixth position in the Premier League, with Anthony Martial starring with two goals in what proved a comfortable victory.

It didn’t all go the way of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side, with the memories of the early-season defeat against Newcastle quickly brought back to life when Matty Longstaff put the visitor’s ahead just as he did four months ago.

This time though United found a swift response, with Martial making the most of a Newcastle defence that was committing error after error to score the equaliser just seven minutes later.

From that point on it proved one-way traffic in the home side’s favour, with Mason Greenwood’s fiercely-struck effort taking a deflection on its way to beating Martin Dubravka, cannoning into the net off the crossbar.

There was enough time left in the first half for Marcus Rashford to steal in and score a third, before Martial added his second when Dubravka was sold short by a Sean Longstaff backpass.
