From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. Liverpool will travel to Manchester United on Sunday, in a game which could be their last attempt to change their season around.

The Reds' dream of reaching the knock-out stages of the Champions League went up in smoke after a 1-1 draw against FC Basel last Tuesday.

United, meanwhile, have built up confidence, wining their last five matches. Striker Robin van Persie was heavily criticised for his form this year but appears to turn the tide scoring both goals against Southampton last Monday which saw them taking home the win.

Argentinian winger Angel di Maria is expected to make his return on Sunday after missing out on United’s previous two games.

Van Gaal criticised van Persie for his lack of form, but scored two goals last Monday, and with Radamel Falcao almost completely fit again is yet to be seen who will have a place in the starting XI on Sunday.

Liverpool finished runners-up in last year’s Premier League and beat Manchester United 3-0 last March. The confidence Liverpool had built up towards the end of the end of the season is disappearing very rapidly.
