From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Martial’s problem, picked up in training, is not thought to be serious but the 23-year-old did not travel with the United squad for Tuesday’s Old Trafford clash.
“He got a slight injury in training but hopefully he’ll be back for next weekend,” Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, the United caretaker manager, said on Martial.
“There was no chance he could play today so it was easy enough to put Romelu [Lukaku] on the pitch.”
Solskjaer makes a total of five changes from the side which beat Arsenal at the Emirates in the FA Cup fourth round on Friday.
Andreas Pereira makes his first Premier League start of the Solskjaer era in midfield, while Juan Mata is named in United’s front three.
Marcus Rashford also returns to the side and joins Lukaku in the attack, with Alexis Sanchez and Jesse Lingard dropping out.
Phil Jones starts in the centre of defence as Eric Bailly is left out of the squad. David de Gea replaces Sergio Romero in goal.
Burnley line up as expected, with Sean Dyche unable to call upon Robbie Brady after his groin injury against Manchester City this weekend.
