Jose Mourinho has ruled out the possibility of David de Gea leaving Manchester United this summer despite persistent speculation linking the goalkeeper with Real Madrid.

De Gea has enjoyed yet another outstanding campaign at Old Trafford and was recently rewarded with a place in the PFA's Team of the Year, his fifth inclusion in seven seasons.

The 27-year-old came close to returning to the city of his birth in 2015 but a move to Madrid broke down at the eleventh hour.

De Gea subsequently signed a new four-year contract at United which will expire at the end of next season, and following several high-profile mistakes by Madrid's current 'keeper Keylor Navas in the Champions League recently, speculation of a revived bid has intensified.

However, when asked on Friday whether De Gea could leave United this summer, Mourinho dismissed the suggestion out of hand.

"No chance," he told reporters at his press conference ahead of Sunday's Premier League meeting with Arsenal.

United are hopeful of agreeing a new contract with De Gea to extend his stay beyond the summer of 2019.

The Spain international arrived at Old Trafford in 2011 in an £18.9m deal from Atletico Madrid.
