From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

The Atletico Madrid forward has been heavily linked with a move to the Premier League in recent weeks, and as The Independent reported a fortnight ago, United are increasingly confident of securing a deal for the Frenchman in the summer.
On Tuesday night, Griezmann's brother Theo tweeted a not-so-cryptic aerial photo of Old Trafford which the Manchester Evening News reports has left United fans feeling "giddy" at the prospect he might be on his way sooner than July.
At the other end of photos on social media affecting emotions, one from Paris St-Germain's Twitter account will be leaving United fans feeling somewhat sadder than Theo Griezmann's.
The below image shows Gonçalo Guedes completing his move from Benfica to the French champions in the early hours of Wednesday.
Guedes, labelled the "new Cristiano Ronaldo" had been heavily linked with a move to Old Trafford but decided to opt for the riches of Paris instead.
Another man being linked with United is Southampton defender Virgil Van Dijk, but it looks like he won't be going anywhere this month after picking up a calf strain against Leicester last weekend.
The Sun reports the Dutchman could be out for up to three months.
And finally, the BBC reports that QPR have agreed a deal of £500,000 to take youngster Sean Goss off United's hands on a permanent basis.
