Manchester United target Gareth Bale refuses to rule out return to the Premier League: 'I will never say never'

Bale moved to Real for a world-record £85m in 2013 but his future has constantly been under speculation

Gareth Bale has refused to rule out a move to Manchester United, saying that he can "never say never" when it comes to making a move back to the Premier League.

Bale has been constantly linked with a transfer to United since his £85m move from Tottenham to Real in 2013, and although he says he is currently happy in the Spanish capital, he is could yet return to the English top flight in the future.

"Now I'm here, I want to win trophies and to win titles, and just do the best I can for my career," Bale, who featured in Real's dissapointing 4-0 defeat by Barcelona on Saturday said. "I will never say never when it comes to going back to the Premier League, because you don't know what the future holds.

"My plan when I first started playing football was to try to reach the pinnacle - and Real Madrid is the pinnacle," he said.

"But I am enjoying my time here. I am very happy."

Although Bale played mostly on the right during the loss to Barca, he has spent much of the season in the number 10 role and is relishing the increased responsibility.

"I had conversations with Rafa (Benitez) in the summer and I am delighted about where I am going to be playing this season," he said. "I like the role behind the striker and feel that's my position. I can drift into areas, find the space and, when I get the ball, attack.

"It's my best position - and I think this year is going to be a great season."
