Former Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand has suggested Romelu Lukaku should look to learn from Harry Kane after Tottenham Hotspur’s victory on Wednesday.

Kane failed to score at Wembley on deadline day as Spurs swept aside United 2-0, including a goal after 10.5 seconds, but kept his opposition centre-backs on their toes all night with his movements.

Lukaku however failed to make much of an impact on the game other than forcing Hugo Lloris into a good reaction save during the second half.

As a result of the two contrasting performances from the pair of 24-year-olds, Ferdinand labelled Kane a “real No 9” and highlighted his physical dominance over the likes of Phil Jones and Chris Smalling.

“I think Kane showed today why he's the best striker in the league and one of the most potent in Europe because he's bullied United's centre halves,” Ferdinand told BT Sport. “He totally dominated them physically and brought other people into play.

“The contrast between him and Lukaku today was so evident it was unbelievable from up here where we watched it.

“The ball going into him, sticking, holding centre halves off and bringing others into the game.

“That's a real No. 9. That's what you want to see a No. 9 do.”
