From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

Manchester United flew to the US on Monday night ahead of their two-week, four game pre-season tour.

Louis van Gaal's squad included the four new additions that have already seen the club spend more than £90million this summer.

Memphis Depay trained with the squad for the first time last week, but it was the first time that Bastian Schweinsteiger, Morgan Schneiderlin and Matteo Darmian had met the rest of the players.

The Schweinsteiger and Schneiderlin deals were only officially announced on Monday afternoon, with the pair immediately whisked to Manchester Airport to join the rest of the 26-man travelling party.

Schweinsteiger chatted to assistant manager Ryan Giggs in the airport lounge, while French midfielder Schneiderlin took pictures and signed autographs with supporters; Darmian sat with David De Gea at the airport.

After landing at the VMAC training facility, home of the NFL's Seattle Seahawks, the squad took part in a light-hearted training session.

Victor Valdes did not travel with the squad but has stated that he wants to remain at the club, while Robin van Persie has officially left to join Fenerbahce.

United's first game is to take place on Saturday night vs Club America in Seattle's CenturyLink Field; the game will kick-off at 4am BST.
