Premier League round-up: Liverpool go top of the league

Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba has been branded “the most undisciplined player of all time” by Liverpool legend and Sky Sports pundit Jamie Carragher.

Carragher and former United defender Gary Neville got onto the subject of Pogba while explaining their Liverpool-United combined XIs on ‘Monday Night Football’.

Both favoured Liverpool with their selections, but Carragher’s reaction to Neville’s inclusion of Pogba at the base of a three-man midfield was the highlight of their debate.

No sooner had Neville unveiled Pogba as his holding midfield choice alongside Georginio Wijnaldum and Naby Keita than Carragher fired back: “Holding what? He's the most undisciplined player of all time!”

A laughing Carragher then buried his head in his hands as Neville attempted to justify his choice, though even the United defender sounded less than convinced.

“I didn't pick him with much conviction to be honest with you,” Neville said. “I was clutching at straws. Matic. Jordan Henderson and James Milner, they're in and out of that midfield in terms of playing.

“I wasn't convinced by anything just through what's been happening. I just thought it's an opportunity for me to put a United player in to be honest!”

Both men favoured 4-3-3 formations, selecting David De Gea in goal, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Virgil van Dijk and Andrew Robertson in defence, Keita in midfield and Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino up front in their teams.

Aside from Pogba, Neville also found room for United stars Eric Bailly and Anthony Martial, while Carragher instead went for Nemanja Matic, Dejan Lovren and Sadio Mane.

Liverpool take on struggling United at Anfield on Sunday knowing they will likely have to win to keep their place at the top of the Premier League, with Manchester City hosting their Merseyside rivals Everton in Saturday’s early kick-off.
