Juan Mata told Manchester United fans that they “deserve better” after the club’s 1-1 draw against Huddersfield confirmed they will miss out on Champions League football next season.

The Spaniard frequently posts to his personal blog, but after the game wrote just a blunt seven-word message that echoed the frustration around the club.

“You deserve better,” Mata said. ”No more words needed.”

United have only won two of their last ten games in all competitions under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and have taken just two points from their last three Premier League games after Isaac Mbenza’s second-half equaliser cancelled out Scott McTominay’s early strike.

Solskjaer was exasperated after the result and said that the future of a number of players were at risk as the Norwegian plans a summer overhaul of the squad.

“I can’t talk about individuals now but there is the chance you have seen the last of [some] players. But I wouldn’t say that about any individual,” Solskjaer said.

“Today was not one individual that was the disappointing thing. It was the whole team.”

Mata is out of contract at the end of the season and is likely to leave the club with a return to Spain the likeliest option, although the midfielder remains a favourite amongst the fans.

The club meanwhile remain desperate to offload Alexis Sanchez, however his wage demands continue to cause potential suitors to baulk.
