Mourinho is currently staying at the famous Manchester hotel given that he has not bought a home since moving north from London, where his wife and children still reside. The United manager has spoken in detail about how life in Manchester is “a bit of a disaster” since the move, but he is not the only well-known face currently staying at the Lowry.
Both Pogba and Mkhitaryan have taken up temporary residence in the hotel while defender Eric Bailly lives in an apartment nearby, with all three moving to Manchester in the summer as Mourinho attempted to strengthen his squad.
As part of Mourinho’s plans, the United squad all travel to the Lowry Hotel before game, where they then make the short journey to Old Trafford around two hours before kick-off.
Normally, Mourinho has allowed those staying at the hotel to meet the team there, but after the humiliating 4-0 defeat by Chelsea last weekend, a source told the Daily Mail that Mourinho has assessed what he can do to try and improve matters at United.
One of his answers is to have every player meet at Old Trafford regardless of where they are located, meaning those staying in the Lowry must travel to Old Trafford, take the coach back to the hotel, and then return to the stadium for matches.
The source believes that Mourinho’s superstitious side is behind his decision, and given it was followed by a 1-0 victory over rivals Manchester City on Wednesday, he is likely to stick with it for the foreseeable future.
“Jose is a very, very superstitious man,” they said. “After the Chelsea game he was distraught and had a long think about anything he could to turn things around. The level of detail he goes into is unbelievable and he will leave no stone unturned.”
United are at home again on Saturday as they take on a Burnley side who are looking to build on last weekend’s impressive victory over Everton, and you can count on Mourinho ordering his squad to meet as they did on Wednesday ahead of the match.
