Your support makes all the difference.Manchester United winger Jesse Lingard found himself on the end of Jose Mourinho’s mischievous side while conducting an interview on the club’s pre-season tour of the United States.
Lingard was taking questions from United’s in-house television channel, MUTV, during a training session on Monday, the day after their 2-1 penalty shoot-out win over Real Madrid in Santa Clara.
Only three of 10 penalties were scored in the shoot-out. United's Anthony Martial, Scott McTominay and Victor Lindelof all either missed or saw their penalties saved by Madrid goalkeeper Kiko Casilla.
Lingard admitted that he and his team-mates may be forced to practise penalties this week following the debacle, at which point Mourinho began to ominously stand over his right-hand shoulder.
After realising what Lingard was talking about, Mourinho interjected and said: “He can’t score a goal but he gives an interview.”
A short awkward silence followed and Mourinho then playfully held Lingard in a headlock before wandering off again.
Puzzlingly, Lingard was one of the few United players to find the net in Santa Clara and has been one of the bright sparks of United's tour so far.
The academy graduate opened the scoring in the first-half after a mesmerising run by Martial had allowed him to convert at the far post. Casemiro equalised for Madrid after the break.
Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Daley Blind were the only two United players to convert in the shoot-out, but it proved enough for victory, as only Madrid’s Luismi Quezada managed to beat David de Gea.
