Your support makes all the difference.Henrikh Mkhitaryan has told Manchester United supporters that “better days will come” following the goalless home draw with Burnley on Saturday.
The 27-year-old attacking midfielder was omitted from the matchday squad once again as Jose Mourinho’s side stretched their search for a Premier League win to four games.
Mkhitaryan, a £26.3m summer signing from Borussia Dortmund, has rarely featured since arriving in Manchester and has played just 107 minutes of league football so far this season.
After watching the stalemate with Burnley from Old Trafford’s directors’ box, Mkhitaryan sent an optimistic message to the club’s support.
“Better days will come for us,” he tweeted. “We march on. One for all and all for one!”
Speaking ahead of Burnley’s visit, Mourinho suggested that Mkhitaryan needs more time to adapt to English football before he can play regularly.
“Some players find it very easy whereas others need more time. They need time to feel the intensity, the aggression, the game without the ball and the competitiveness,” he said on Friday.
“The realities are often different, particularly in terms of the competitiveness. It doesn't matter who you are against, you have to play at the highest level otherwise you will not be able to do it.
“Micki needs time to become the top player he knows he can be.”
Mkhitaryan, who was named the Bundesliga’s Player of the Season by Kicker last term, has not featured since his disappointing display in United’s 2-1 defeat to Manchester City in September.
On that occasion, Mkhitaryan’s selection came as a surprise, as he was carrying a thigh injury sustained while on international duty with Armenia.
Mkhitaryan aggravated the injury in the defeat to City, ruling him out of subsequent matches against Feyenoord, Watford, Northampton Town and Leicester City.
The Armenian returned to full training ahead of the Europa League group stage victory over Zorya Luhansk in late September, but is still waiting for minutes on the pitch.
