From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Chris Smalling, who missed Wednesday’s EFL Cup win over neighbours Manchester City with muscle problem, is expected to be fit and return to the side.
A foot injury kept Anthony Martial out of the matchday squad for the derby but the France international should be available for selection on Saturday.
Marcus Rashford was substituted in the 81st minute of the 1-0 victory over City, provoking injury concerns, but the issue is not thought to be serious.
Phil Jones has reportedly resumed full training following his recovery from a knee ligament injury, though having not played since 2 January, the defender remains some way off first-team action.
Jose Mourinho confirmed that Henrikh Mkhitaryan is not currently injured, despite his struggles to break into the Portuguese's first-team plans.
"He is not injured," the United manager confirmed. "Sometimes I confuse the word 'fit' in the English language. Sometimes you can say that it is 'not injured', but you could also say that it is 'in great condition and ready to compete'.
"That is different for me as we use different words in Portuguese for the different situations. Mkhitaryan is not injured, he is training with the team 100 per cent."
Eric Bailly is sidelined for two months after sustaining a knee injury in last Sunday’s 4-0 defeat at Chelsea, while James Wilson is out with a knee ligament injury.
