From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. Manchester United are taking a close interest in developments in the transfer of Sergio Aguero according to reports.

Chelsea have been in talks with Atletico Madrid over the striker while Inter Milan have also been showing interest. It now appears United could be poised to join the battle for his signature.

With Sir Alex Ferguson yet to reinvest the £80m received for Cristiano Ronaldo, United would certainly be in a strong position to trigger the £55m release clause in his contract.

Chelsea have had two bids for the Argentine, in the region of £40m, rejected by Atletico according to reports in the Spanish media.

Carlo Ancelotti is eager to add to his squad in January, with a transfer embargo due to be imposed on Chelsea in the summer.

Yet although Aguero has conceded he could move on from La Liga, he doesn't to do so before the end of the season. But with Atletico in dire financial trouble, their resolve could be tested with a large enough bid in the January window.
