Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference. He can make world-class saves look supremely easy, but Manchester City goalkeeper Joe Hart will enter uncharted territory this month when he grows a moustache for the first time in support of the Movember charity campaign.
“I’ll be playing a part in it,” he said, while offering no guarantees of what the end result will look like. “I’m looking forward to seeing what can happen this month. I honestly don’t know how it is going to end up, but I’ll see.”
The only thing he can promise is there will be no fashionable hipster beard: “It’ll be a strict ’tache, nothing else – I think everywhere else will be clean!
“It is an amazing cause,” he added. “Gillette are a massive worldwide brand, and for them to put their name to it is even better, as it brings the awareness of the three causes [prostate cancer, testicular cancer and mental health] that are being supported. The moustache is the fun side, it gets people talking, and as long as people are aware why they’re talking and why it’s there, it can be really positive.”
And he hopes it will lead to an important conversation in City’s multinational dressing room. “I don’t think any other players are taking part so, hopefully, this will bring more awareness – when it does get noticed I’ll explain exactly why I am doing it, what are the great causes and what good can come from this.
