Coronavirus: How has sport been affected?

The agent of Manchester City forward Leroy Sane says he has been in discussions over the future of the German international, with several elite clubs hoping to sign him.

Sane, 24, has just one year left on his current contract at the Etihad Stadium and was thought to be close to a move to Bayern Munich a year ago.

A knee injury derailed the possibility of a 2019 exit, however, sustained in the Community Shield in August—but he returned to full training in the early part of this year.

Now, his agent Damir Smoljan says Sane holds the ambition of winning the Champions League and any move will be focused around that aim.

“Together with him, we talk with Manchester City about what the next step could look like,” Smoljan told Bild.

“The interest of Bayern Munich is no secret. But other absolute top clubs also contacted us about Leroy.

“Bayern is the only club in Germany that Leroy can imagine as the next step in his career.

“He sees there the requirements for achieving his big goal of winning the Champions League.”

City could yet insist Sane sees out the final year of his contract, even if he will not extend his deal, meaning a free transfer in the summer of 2021.

Pep Guardiola’s team are also facing a European football ban, which would presumably heighten the chances of an exit for Sane if his career choice is driven by the desire to lift the Champions League.
